I graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia with a BA in American Studies and earned my APC at the University of Maryland.  In 1973 I started teaching first grade at St. Bernadette's School in  Springfield, Virginia.  After three and a half years, I stopped to have five children and stayed home for ten years.  I  began teaching first grade  for FCPS in 1987 at New Market Elementary and switched to third grade in1999.  My work in the Magnet Program began seven years ago.

I like "total immersion" teaching and learning.  Our much anticipated spring musical combines research skills with an exciting theatrical experience.  Our students love to go to our science/social studies lab where they have hands-on activities that link to our essential curriculum.  Last year, students cared for and studied 20 different live organisms in the lab.

I live in Ijamsville with Mr. Alspaugh and his 90 year old mother.  We enjoy taking care of her and seeing our five adult children with their spouses and our wonderful grandchildren.  We have two grandsons and are expecting three more babies in 2009 and 2010.  We feel very blessed.

It is a privelege and an honor to serve the children of the New Market community and their families.
